This U-shaped former stable block surrounding a water-facing courtyard had been converted to a house many years ago. Over a period of fifteen years we designed three phases of further renovations, reorganizing the internal plan while retaining the antique charm of the original.

The door of this landmark building, when built in 1891, featured a fan light and side lights with elaborate leaded glass, which were removed in the 1960’s. Our project was to reconstruct the original leaded glass pattern, based on photographs found in the Harvard University Archives.

Columns vary according to a hierarchy of formality: plain square white columns for the entry porch, monumental paneled columns for the view-facing porch, and locally-milled timbers with metal connections for the outbuildings.
