Urban Oasis

Located in a historical neighborhood, the scope for this house included a revival of its original 1880’s Queen Anne charm, which was lost in the rear of the house.  The existing mid-century addition in the rear was redesigned and a new historically sensitive addition was incorporated. These spaces were oriented to connect with the outdoors for more charming experiences both inside and out.

The existing deck on the back of the house was relocated to an inside corner and covered to extend the existing covered porch off the side of the kitchen.  This expanded the living and dining areas into a protected outdoor room, fitted with a wood stove and screen curtains for added protection in the summer.

After the porch was complete, a new garden was designed to blend into the sloping landscape of the backyard.  Courtyards, stone walls, and garden pathways designed by Leblanc Jones and constructed by Bob Hanss Inc. made this a true “Urban Oasis”.  ART collaborated with the landscape team on the design for a picturesque garden shed, constructed by Robert Lawrence Builders.  This complementary outdoor room is a favorite client retreat for enjoying the gardens, potting flowers, or fixing evening drinks.
